I’ve decided to step back from my Marvel fandom and talk about another fandom of mine. College Basketball.
I’ve been a fan of UC basketball for the last 4 years now. Ever since UC (Nancy Zimpher) fired Bob Huggins, Mick Cronin has done a great job rebuilding this program to what it is today. From the Yancy Gates to Sean Kilpatrick’s, UC is back on top as an elite team primarily known for it’s great defense and toughness. The match up between Xavier and UC will definitely be an exciting one to watch as both teams are ranked (12th ranked Xavier, 23rd ranked UC) and battling to see who owns the great city of Cincinnati.
Xavier all starts with Trevon Bluiett. The sophomore guard is the leader of this team in scoring, rebounding and 3 pt % shots. Not only him, but Myles Davis and Jalen Reynolds both contribute in points and rebounds per game. The front court for Xavier is definitely scary and UC will definitely be tested against this high powered team.
There are a few things that UC must do if they want to win this game.
- #1: Contain Bluiett: It’s simple, only as if UC can step up to the plate and do it.
- #2: Take advantage of turnovers: UC forces 10 steals per game. If they can do that, plus more take aways…they have to reflect that on the scoreboard. Take it to the glass and score.
- #3: Score and score: Bearcats are averaging 82 pts. a game. Probably the highest ever in the Mick Cronin era. As of late, they’ve been struggling in the 3pt shots. Troy Caupain, Farad Cobb, Kevin Johnson need to all contribute in making 3 pt. shots. If both teams are not doing well on defense, it’ll just me a matter of how well the offense does.
This is the most important game right now for UC. After that last second loss against Butler, getting this win for UC to add onto their resume will be great come March. Everyone on this team needs to step up on toughness and play with more heart. They can’t let teams score a lot of points. If they can’t stay with Xavier, it won’t be pretty for the bearcats. This crosstown shootout will be a fun one to watch. Praying that the Bearcats will stun the crowd in front of a packed house at the Cintas Center. GO CATS!!
