I know I haven’t done an Arrow episode review in a while but a lot has been going with team arrow and things aren’t looking good.
To recap of what’s happened in season 4, team arrow is facing a tough adversary in Damien Darhk. Darhk’s abilities overwhelm Oliver and his friend by his use of magic and sorcery. Every encounter with him, team arrow gets the south end. This would be a more powerful opponent they’ve ever faced before. Laurel and Thea travel to Nanda Parbat to visit the Ra’s al Ghul, Malcom Merlyn, in hopes that they can use the Lazarus Pit to bring back Laurel’s sister, Sara, back to life. They eventually do but bringing her back resulted in a demonic state for Sara. It took a while to bring her back to her former self, Laurel encourages her to be the hero that she always was. Thus, sending her off with a new team, Legends of Tomorrow. With all the chaos going on, Oliver decides to run for mayor. This, however, is short lived when Dhark kidnaps Oliver’s son, William. If he wants to see him live, Oliver had no choice but to drop out of the race. The title of mayor would eventually go to Dhark’s wife, Ruvé Adams. The reveal of Oliver’s son caused a rift between him and Felicity as she had no knowledge of Oliver’s son. The engaged couple was short lived when she broke off the engagement and quits the team. Things continued to get crazy when Diggle found out that his brother, Andy, was still alive. While he wasn’t presumed dead, he was recruited by Dhark’s organization, HIVE, and become a foot soldier. Thanks to team arrow and Diggle’s help, they managed to break the ghost connection that was in Andy and bring him over to the good side. Or so they thought.
Darhk would eventually be captured by team arrow by going to the source of the power, a totem that he uses and performs blood rituals so he can access his power. This totem is actually the same statue that Oliver came in contact with when he was on Lian Yu. Team arrow managed to separate Dhark and the statue and bring him down. However, with the help of Merlyn and Diggle’s brother, Andy, Dhark was able to escape prison and take back the idol that was previously kept with Oliver and his friends. Diggle was heartbroken to find out that Andy was loyal member to HIVE all along. Andy was a crucial part to bring back Damien back to power. With team arrow trying to bring the 3 villains down, Dhark brought the team to its knees by killing the Black Canary, Laurel Lance.
This past week’s episode showed the aftermath of Laurel’s death. Diggle was grieving, taking the blame because he couldn’t see that his own brother would betray him. Oliver had his doubts about Andy and brought it to Diggle’s attention but it was family. We had our fair share that family were villains such as Oliver’s mom, Thea’s Dad and now Diggle’s brother. Now that team arrow is down a member, I wonder how they’ll take down Dhark along with Merlyn and Andy. It was good to see Felicity back but as of late, she’s been annoying me ever since the breakup. I get her position why she was hurting but she joined the team knowing of the sacrifices as well. It sucks that Laurel is gone. Katie Cassidy did a marvelous job portraying this character for 4 seasons. I know I will miss her along with other Canary fans as well. She will be missed
