Considering I blog my favorite movies and TV shows, it’s pretty clear what I watch most of the time. Agents of SHIELD, Arrow, Flash, and Survivor are my favorites. I do binge watch TV shows on Netflix. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bitten, How I met your mother, and Lost are a handful of shows I’ve seen. Since my favorite shows had their season finales a couple months ago, there is another favorite show I watch during the summer.
America’s got Talent is a favorite I watch almost every season. The reason I watch it is because there is a whole variety of acts that can perform besides singing. I do watch, on occasion, The Voice or any other singing show but America’s Got Talent, AGT, is very different. Currently, AGT is in its 11th season and so far it does not disappoint. I can honestly say that this season, the singing competition will be far greater than previous seasons. For the 2nd time, AGT has the golden buzzer where each judge can press this buzzer and it allows the act to skip the next few rounds and go straight into the live shows. All four judges have selected singers as their golden buzzer acts. 2 kids, 1 high school student and 1 pizza delivery guy. Besides them, there are a handful of other singers that have tremendous voices and could make a long run in this competition. I don’t have anything against singers in this competition but I like to see other talents to win the show. To me, I feel that a variety act like magicians, dancers, stunt performers, etc. should win the show. The prize at the end is a headline show in Las Vegas; that’s a big deal. In ten seasons, 5 winners were singers, 2 were magicians, 2 were ventriloquists, and the last was a team of talented dogs. Out of the 10, Terry Fator is still the most successful. He makes like 200 million dollars in Vegas and performs shows every night. He’s a ventriloquist, impressionist, singer and comedian. If you haven’t seen him, I suggest you look him up. He’s very talented. This show brings a whole wide range of people to show the world what they got and it’s incredible. The competition is fierce because one slip up, especially the stunt acts, can be sent home in a heartbeat. Although the talent and competition is there, I feel as though judges could be more critical. I have nothing against Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, Mel B, and Heidi Klum. They all have different backgrounds which makes them judge differently. I feel as though they could be better when selecting the acts that go before a live audience. Any comedy relief acts are fine but it won’t be something I’ll be paying good money to see if they win the show and perform in Las Vegas. In previous years, they’ve selected comedy relief acts to go through while some of the really good acts get sent home. It bothers me because they have a better shot to win the million dollars than the others. If I were a judge, I would base an act if it’s something that’s good and has a good shot to perform in Vegas. That’s it. Even if some of the good acts don’t win, it does open doors for them. One example is Linsey Sterling. She was a violinist with a little twist. She came in 7th place, I think. Now, she’s touring the world, performing at venues and making more music. Anyone that appears on the show will get a shot after the competition is over and that’s what I love about this show. It’s a fair shot for anyone that wants to try out but their dream won’t be over if they don’t reach the grand prize. America’s Got Talent is a great show.
