If you read my yesterday’s post on my biggest regret in life, today’s topic coincides with it. I think education is very important. Education establishes the ground work for anyone that believes they can achieve anything. I’m the type of person that likes to be challenged. Whether it’s in work or civil discussion, challenging myself makes me better than I was before. Education does just that. Yes, you can get by in life without a decent education but I think receiving that knowledge can open many doors for you. However, I think there is a flaw in the education system we have today.
I 100% believe that the education we receive in high school is flawed. Trust me, I believe that every subject we take in high school is important. It does give us the foundation we need for college but it doesn’t give us the foundation we need in the real world. What I’m talking about is life skills. By the time people reach high school, they’re almost adults. They can almost drive, some are close to vote and some can have a full time job. At this age, they are taking that first step to adulthood. By the time college is around, will they be able to live on their own? Sure, they can receive wisdom from their parents but I think it should be in the high school classroom, don’t you? Things like how to handle money, establishing good credit, home/car repairment, cooking and healthcare should be in the schools and taught to students. My mother was in immigrant from Korea. When she came to the United States, she dreamed of getting a good education but didn’t receive one. All of the things I listed above, she had to learn on her own but she had help from her friends, now she has passed down to me. I’m not saying learning from your parents is a bad thing but it’s not a problem to put it in the classroom too. There’s probably a handful of kids in high school that have to learn on their own, so to learn those valuable life lessons after school would help them tremendously. Education as a whole is very important, but if they could add these things on, it would be even better. What are your thoughts?
