This challenge post is my least favorite so far because I don’t have just one favorite movie. I am a movie buff and I could watch movies all day if I want to. If you’re a person that has just 1 favorite movie, then good for you. I enjoy many movies based on its story and content. Obviously, I love any Disney and marvel movie. I’ve enjoyed Disney movies growing up and Marvel movies have always been fun to watch. But, if I had to pick just one movie…
The Wizard of Oz is one movie I could probably watch over and over again. If you haven’t seen this movie, there is something very wrong with you. The Wizard of Oz is a classic that I hope no one will attempt to reboot this movie in the future like other movie classics. This movie stars Judy Garland as Dorothy, who lives on her Aunt and Uncle’s farm along with her dog, Toto. After running away from home, she encounters a phony but yet friendly fortune teller who tricks her saying that her Aunt is heartbroken. Dorothy rushes to return home but a Tornado strikes. Unable to find safety in the storm cellar, she goes to her bedroom but gets knocked out by a window sash. She then dreams about the land of Oz. Glenda the Good Witch and the munchkins introduce themselves and declare Dorothy as a heroine since her house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East. However, Wicked Witch of the West shows up to claim the ruby red slippers from the previous witch. Glenda, though, puts them on Dorothy’s feet first. Glenda tells Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City and find the Wizard of Oz, who could help Dorothy find her way home. Along the way she befriends a Scarecrow without a brain, a tin man without a heart and a lion with no courage. She brings them along on her adventure to see if Oz could help them too. They encounter the witch again but it did not stop them and reached Emerald City. The Wizard agrees to help them if they bring them the Witch’s broomstick. The witch was able to see their progress and managed to capture Dorothy with the use of her flying monkeys. Scarecrow, tinman and lion successfully rescued Dorothy and she managed to defeat the witch by splashing water, causing her to melt. They bring back the broomstick to Oz but he delays their requests. Toto, then, pulls back a curtain which reveals the true Oz who is just a human being projecting the “Wizard.” He then grants everyone’s wishes and agrees to take Dorothy home. Dorothy misses the ride on his hot air balloon but Glenda the Good Witch arrives and tells Dorothy she can return home by clicking the ruby slippers and say “There’s no place like home.” She does so, waking up next to her family and friends.
This movie had such a great cast and plot and it was beautifully done. I believe that this was the first movie ever to have color in it. Even though the movie didn’t have the special effects like we do now in the 21st century, the characters and story make the movie. Everyone played their part so well and I’m still impressed by the movie today. Like I said, I could live off this movie everyday if I wanted to.
