Greetings, people of the internet! A couple nights ago I came back home from my cruise with my friends and it was probably the best vacation I took in a long time. Prior to this trip, I’ve never been on cruise and I was nervous but excited to be on a ship and see what they have to offer. A couple of family friends have been on a cruise and told me that you never get bored on a cruise….and they were right! I went with my best friend, Megan, and her family. It was me, Megan, her 2 brothers, sister and sister’s boyfriend along with her parents and grandparents and 2 family friends of theirs. I was kind of apprehensive traveling with her family because even though I know them, I didn’t know them on a personal level. Going on this cruise with her family was so much fun! They are all so funny and awesome to be around with and I know for sure that I will go on another trip with them.
I arrived in Florida on Saturday and went to Megan’s parents place and spent the night there. The next day, we took a 3 hour drive to a hotel that was 10 minutes away from the port that we were leaving from. This way, since there was a big group of us, we wouldn’t have to rush from the house to the port. On Monday, we checked out of the hotel and went to the Tampa port. The process to get onto the ship was a long one. It wasn’t too bad but there was just a lot of people ready to get on board. My friend’s parents have priority access, so they got to bypass the long lines and get immediate access onto the ship. They had priority because they’ve been on so many cruises and accumulated those benefits onto their account. I would say we waited for about an hour, maybe less, until we went through security and had our onboard ID created to get onto the ship. Once we were on, we headed straight to the buffet line and got food. I’d say we were on the ship for an hour and a half until the ship started moving.
On our 5 night cruise, we were scheduled to visit Grand Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico. However, things changed. After we made out visit to Grand Cayman, the ship started moving to Mexico. When we were on the deck by the pool, there was PA announcement asking for immediate medical assistance in the casino. At first, I thought someone was really drunk and passed out or they just got really sick. Well, turns out the passenger had a heart attack. It was really bad that they had to turn around and go back to Grand Cayman so the passenger get the medical assistance she needed. When we came back to Cayman, we saw the emergency boat from the islands come to the ship and carry off the passenger along with her family. Due to the emergency, we didn’t have the time to travel to Mexico and stayed in Cayman for an extra day. It was a sad situation to be a part of. Unfortunately, the passenger died the next day and shipped her body off back to Tampa. My heart aches for that family. This was supposed to be a time for relaxation and fun for everyone on that ship but that family is now grieving and in pain. All I could think about was that family because that’s just an awful thing that happened. After our extra day in Cayman, the next day my friend and I went to the dining area for breakfast and sat next to other passengers at our table. One of those passengers complained about how they didn’t go to Mexico and was prepared to fight the cruise line to get his money back. He literally had no sympathy for the family and just wanted our opinion to see if he could win. It was also his first time on a cruise and was mean about it. In all honesty, I was upset too to not go to Mexico but all I could think about was that family that had to deal with that sudden loss. It was just a bad situation to be in. We were all lucky to spend another day in Cayman. Also, we were all refunded the import and tax fees if we were to make it to Mexico. Also, my friend’s brother tracked the weather in Mexico and if we were to arrive there, it would’ve rained the entire time. It just bothers me that some people don’t look at the positive side of things. You’re on vacation. Make the best of it, there’s so much to do on a cruise. Be thankful it wasn’t your family member that had a heart attack.
Besides the unfortunate incident, it was awesome to be with my best friend that I haven’t seen in a year and be on a cruise with her and her family. I definitely recommend to go on a cruise if you can for vacation. Everything is all right there for you and accessible. It’s pretty much a floating hotel along with entertainment and food. You can either go to the buffet for food or go to an elegant dining hall. For dinner, we went to the dining hall. You had to dress up a little nice for the occasion. You had a menu to look at and also waiters to serve. On the menu, you had selection of appetizers, entrees, and deserts. The best part was you can select as many as you want. For me, I did select 2 deserts on a couple nights! Most of the time, we sat out on deck next to the pool and slept. We got to see a couple comedy shows, a love and marriage show and some concerts too! There was always something going on and it was insane on how much they had. Besides the entertainment and dancing going on inside, you got the awesome view of the ocean to look at every day. It sucks I’m back to reality but it just means I’ll be saving up again for my next cruise! My friend’s family is talking about taking a cruise in Hawaii. The ship will leave from the mainland and travel to different parts of the island…better get myself a 2nd job!! Thinking about it, going on a cruise is probably the only way I’ll vacation from now on!
