After searching high and low, far and wide, America has crowned their new talent winner, Grace Vanderwaal! Vanderwaal became the 2nd kid to win the national contest, previous kid winner was Bianca Ryan all the way back in season 1. Ever since Vanderwaal came to the auditions, she’s been an inspiration to others. Her humbling personality and graceful spirit touched the judges and the audience. She has a unique voice that’s very charming and delightful to hear. We also can’t ignore that she’s very talented on the ukulele and even at 12 years old, she has a story to tell by performing her own original songs. At her audition, she performed her original “I don’t know my name”, which brought a social media upbringing, doing their take on Vanderwaal’s classic. After the audition, judge Howie Mandel hit his golden buzzer sending her straight to the live shows and Simon Cowell made his statement saying that Vanderwaal is the “next Taylor Swift.” I’m sure from here on out, her life will never be the same. She’s going to take time off from her school schedule and going to the mall to prepare her headline show in Vegas, which I’m sure will be absolutely amazing.
After the performances on Tuesday night, I knew America had a tough choice on their hands because the majority of the acts stepped up their game to make their million dollar case. The acts that stood out to me was Sofie Dossi, Victor Kee, Jon Dorenbos and Brian Justin Crum. Dossi was stunning, beautiful, graceful…she has the whole package. She continues to push the boundaries of what she can do and showing how much strength she has. This is not the end for her, this is the first day for the rest of her life. Kee also stepped up his game, taking juggling to a whole new level. I really hope someone in the entertainment industry picks him up. He can hold his own and deliver a mind blowing an hour and a half live show. If that happens, believe me, I will be there front row. Dorenbos’ performance was low key but still mesmerizing with a powerful message. It’s awesome to see that a NFL player that’s making a comfortable living to come out on the show to live in his dream. Yes, football is his work and passion but like Dorenbos said, magic is his escape. When his NFL career ends, I hope to see perform in many stages across the globe. Simon Cowell needs to sign Brian Justin Crum, yesterday. I’ve loved every single one of his performances and I would pay to see his live show. On his performance on Tuesday, I thought it was a mistake at first to perform a Michael Jackson hit with his own take on it. But, as the song went on, it really paid off. I’m so surprised that this guy is not signed with a major label company. I really hope that he does in the future. Every act that has appeared on AGT was only the first step. Getting to perform in front of millions is a dream come true for them. There are a handful of acts from previous seasons that didn’t win, they went on to start their own career just by being on the show. I can’t wait to see where this seasons acts will be in 10 years’ time. It was a great season of AGT, can’t wait until next summer when we find our new best act in America!
Now that summer is coming to a close and fall is right around the corner, it means that my favorite fall shows are coming back! Agents of Shield, Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Survivor all return in less than a few weeks and I’m so excited! I’m really excited to see Ghost Rider in this season’s Agents of Shield and how that will affect the plot of rising inhumans, a new SHIELD director and other threats as well. Survivor should be an interesting season where they will put Millennials against Generation X. Simply put, its old vs. young. Interesting theme but we’ll see how this season rolls with the new cast of tribe members vying for the million dollars. The DC universe on the CW should be exciting. The tv producers said that there will be a 4 part crossover with all 4 shows, which will be something that hasn’t been done before. Supergirl’s first season was aired on CBS but it is now with the CW. I did see the Flash/Crossover episode but did not watch its entirety because the story and headliner didn’t really catch my attention, and not sure how you can make a tv show of Superman’s cousin. Since this will now belong in the CW/DC universe, I’ll have to watch the first season on Netflix and catch up with what’s happening. Supergirl has also casted their Superman in the form of Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin. How all 4 shows cross over will work is still up in the air and anything can happen. I’m still excited to see how this all plays out!
