Back in 2013, I went and saw my favorite band, Pentatonix, in my own backyard. It was such a thrill seeing them live and hearing them up close was unbelievable. I made it my personal mission to see them on tour the following years but didn’t. However, this year I’ll be traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to see them live and I couldn’t be possibly more excited! 🙂
When I saw Pentatonix 3 years ago, they were upcoming artists so they performed at a small venue called Bogarts. It was a couple blocks down from where I went to school. In that setting, it was very intimate because it was standing room only and the stage was no more than 6 feet away from where I was when the concert started. Some of the highlights at the concert that night was Avi and Kevin had an audience participation segment. They divided the audience into 3 groups to sing different melodies while they provided the bass and beatbox. It was kind of cheesy but to sing along with them a Capella is something I’ll never forget. The other highlight was they sang Let’s get it On by Marvin Gaye from their sing off days. But, they brought up a girl from the audience and pretty much serenade her when they performed the song. It was so hilarious because the group was all around her and Avi and Scott sat on her lap and I’m pretty sure that the girls’ night. I’ve seen Youtube clips of Pentatonix doing this routine at other shows and fans dubbed this segment as “Chair Girl.”
Now that Pentatonix are getting bigger and bigger each year, the value of them has gone up and they’re performing at bigger venues. When I see them next month, they’ll be performing at an arena. Pretty a much a big step up from where they were 3 years ago. I also purchased the VIP experience which includes a meet and greet, photo op, autograph session, merchandise, and VIP badge. I’m literally so excited for the VIP portion of the concert because I’ll get to be up close with them again and I’m wondering if they’ll remember me! Lol I’ve seen blogs of fans that been to their shows before and according to them, Scott and Kevin have good memory on seeing their fans again. Considering the last show I went to was 3 years ago, I highly doubt they’ll remember me but we’ll see! There are 3 different VIP packages you can get. The base, which I’ve described above, is the beginner package. The next level is the base plus a sound check and Q&A session. The third level is everything plus a private performance from Pentatonix and a selfie on your phone. I purchased the 2nd level, so I’m thinking very hard of a good question when it gets to the Q&A portion of the event! The sound check portion should just as great because only a few of us will be in the arena to hear them warm up and sing a song. I say song because reading from other fans experiences at their shows, they only perform 1 song at sound check. I’m just curious to see which song they’ve perform.
During the concert, I’m actually interested and speculative on which songs they’ve perform. Don’t get me wrong, all of their original material and covers are awesome. But, with this big library of songs they have, which 10 or 15 songs will they chose? Personally, I believe they should showcase more of their original material. They released their full length original album this past year indicating that original material is the direction that they’re going. I would love them to perform “Sing”, “Can’t Sleep Love”, “Cracked”, and “Water” live because those are my personal favorites. They also shouldn’t stray from their covers because covers is what got them in the spotlight today. I believe I heard Scott say that they’ll always do covers because that will always be their base. They recently released their cover of “No” by Meghan Trainor so I’m sure they’ll perform that. “Daft Punk” medley is a must because they won a Grammy for that song. Also, their evolution songs are crazy. They did 3 evolution medleys. Evolution of music, Evolution of Beyoncé, and Evolution of Michael Jackson. Out of those 3, I would love to see them perform Beyoncé because that’s my personal favorite but I think they’ll perform Michael Jackson since that’s the most recent. But, probably the #1 song that I have to hear live is their cover of “Aha!” with Christus Factus Est intro. I’ve seen them do this rendition on Youtube and it’s so speechless and their tight harmonies shines when they sing this arrangement. If I hear that live, I’ll probably die. No joke.
Either way, I’ll be so ecstatic to meet them again and hear them live in a packed arena!
